Mowing Guidelines

At Coast Landscaping Inc., we utilize a general rule to time each mowing so that no more than one-third of the standing grass height will be removed. Removing more than one-third of the grass blades can damage any root growth, while the upper plant materials continue to regrow rapidly as a response. Repeating the practice can be detrimental to the turf.

These are our recommendations for common grasses in California:

Grass Type Mowing Height Mowing Frequency (Days)

Tall Fescue 2.5 7-10

Kentucky Bluegrass 2 5-7

Bermuda (common) 1.5 3.5

Bermuda (hybrid) 1 3-5
