California Drought Declaration

As a leader in the industry, we take our job very seriously. California’s Governor Brown sent out a declaration of new regulations on the severe drought we are facing. As water managers working through this struggle, we are called to use the best practices and efficient technologies as a first-line tool to mitigate the effects of the drought.

The following are the most recent water restrictions to SAVE WATER:

  • CA must achieve a statewide 25% reduction in potable urban water usage through February 26, 2016.

  • The Department of Water Resources shall lead a statewide initiate in partnership with local agencies to collectively replace 50 Million sq. feet or lawns and ornamental turf with drought tolerant landscapes.

  • Rebate programs to provide monetary incentives for the replacement of inefficient household devices will be implemented by the CA Energy Commission & the Department of the Water Board.

  • The Water Board will put an increased focus on water efficiency for commercial, institutional and industrial properties (golf courses, campuses, etc.)

  • Irrigation with potable water of ornamental turf on public street medians will be prohibited.

  • New homes and buildings will need to be irrigated with micro irrigation products only, potable water irrigation is prohibited.

  • The Water Board will direct urban water suppliers to develop new rate structures & other pricing mechanisms, including surcharges, fees, and penalties to maximize water conservation that’s consistent with statewide restrictions.

Water is a vital element for all life forms and nothing can replace it. No water means no life. We all must do our part in this crisis. Inform yourself by staying up to date with the latest water restrictions, check out: http://www.sdcwa.org/.
