A New Water Source!
According to the San Diego Water Authority, San Diego is going to host the largest desalination project in the western hemisphere. This fall, 2015, Carlsbad is going to host this new water source. The one billion dollar price tag will include the desalination plant and ten miles of water pipeline to carry the refined water to the San Diego Water Authorities Twin Oaks Valley Water Treatment plant, where it will serve as a distribution point throughout the region.
Though costly now, it is expected to match traditional water import costs from outside entities by the mid 2020′s. As a landscaping company, we are excited that the plant is projected to produce seven percent of the counties needs in 2020. The new plant will provide water that is more “reliable” than water imported from outside agencies, reducing the county’s dependence and uncertainties due to droughts, regulatory restrictions, and natural disasters!
