Healthier Laws & Cleaner Water

Clean water is something worth protecting and thicker lawns are something that can help.

Turfgrass, like other plants, must manufacture sugars in their leaves if they are to develop into a high quality lawn. Closely mowed lawns have limited leaf area to take in the sunlight to produce the food they need to be healthy.

Thicker lawns are more weed resistant, absorb more stormwater, need less fertilzer, and lose less sediment during storms. A direct relationship exists between the height of the turfgrass plants and the depth of the total mass of their root system. Overall, it is recommended that raising mower heights will help create a healthier lawn and cleaner streams.
